Are quizzes the ultimate opt in offer idea?
What are good opt in offer ideas for your small business?
The number one question I get asked in my 13+ years of strategy & entrepreneurship is…..
How can I generate leads and find leads for my small business?
I know how frustrating it is to be incredible at what you do but still be the best kept secret on the internet.
If you’re wondering ‘how do I get customers to opt in’ then quizzes are a great way to go.
Read on for my top five reasons why a quiz is a great opt in idea for coaches, course creators and small businesses.

Why is a quiz a great opt in offer?
Reason 1: It is using positive not scare marketing
I’ve definitely got on my soap box before about why you want to use positive marketing rather than scare marketing in your business, you can check out that blog here.
I would rather get my audience to opt in, engage with me and buy from a place of empowerment not fear.
The result is the same, they are on your list, in your community and spending money in your business, but they have a very different experience as the energy is very different.
If they are buying from a place of positivity they are likely to get a much better result or experience than if they buy from being shamed or feeling like their business or life will fall apart if they don’t.
As marketers we have a responsibility to support people from their very first interaction with us.
Yes, use some of the language they use to describe where they are and the worries they have. This will help them to know they are in the right place and that you understand them. But think of it as the salt in a recipe, use it sparingly otherwise it completely ruins the experience.
Reason 2: You can tailor your marketing to your audience
Questions are an incredible way to understand more about someone.
So by kicking off your relationship by giving them an opportunity to feel listened to, and to give you information, you can tailor your marketing to where they are in their journey.
A quiz enables you to understand your audience from day one and target your marketing to specifically what they need.
Right at the start of your funnel/customer journey you’re putting your audience into segments.
By self selecting a segment your audience is giving you an opportunity to understand more deeply where they are at, what they need & what they want.
You can then use that information to tailor your communications and offers to them. This gives the customer a much better experience and also enables you to increase conversions.
Reason 3: it's continual market research
Chances are if you’ve been in business for more than a day you will know that everything starts with market research.
Decisions about what to sell, your messaging, branding, pricing, social platforms and well everything in your business starts with really understanding your audience.
A quiz acts as continual market research. You can use the information they give you to map out future offers and really understand your audience.
Reason 4: Quizzes work
- Quizzes are the top performing content for New York Times.
- Cost per lead if you run ads to them is usually significantly lower.
- They usually have twice as high a conversion rate vs static typical freebies.
So the numbers don’t lie, they are a powerful part of marketing.
Reason 5: it's interactive not boring static
Our attention spans are the shortest they’ve ever been (congrats if you’re still reading, you’re bucking the trend).
Gone are the days of static content like ebooks that they just download and do nothing with. I’ve got so many of those saved to a folder to read one day.
With a quiz they make little micro commitments as they answer every question. This means that they are involved and therefore you’re keeping their attention and they are getting more and more invested in you and the results.
According to Buzzsumo 82% of people finish a quiz they start.
We’re also naturally curious about ourselves so anything that helps us with self exploration and understanding will get our attention and commitment.
This helps you to quickly build genuine connection with your community and helps you stand out in a noisy online world full of dull static freebies that they never use.
Humans are naturally curious about themselves, so anything that helps with self exploration is popular
So there are my five reasons why I think quizzes are great freebie ideas for small businesses.
