How to Redesign Business Success & Feel Fulfilled
As entrepreneurs business success is what we’re after but so often we don’t really know what it looks like.
Big question alert!!! – Do you think you are successful?
I did warn you it was a biggie. It can be a really hard question to answer as it depends on your mood, how you’re feeling about life and business when you’re reading this.
What does business success look like to you?
You’ll likely already have an idea of what success means to you. You might be unaware of it but I promise you it’s there.
Some say it’s cars, houses, achievements, promotions, charity work, awards, philanthropy, medals, having children, the latest gadgets.
When you think of being successful, what are the top 3 things you think of?
Defining what business success looks like for you is something so many of us gloss over but how we define it has a fundamental impact on our sense of happiness and achievement.
And if you’re not careful you can end up living out someone else’s vision of success.

Why should we redefine business success?
We have layers of conditioning we’re not always aware of – family, friends, society which we need to shrug off so we can intentionally design our own happiness and fulfilment.
We’re influenced by things we’ve been told, modelled, learnt, even films, magazines, TV, social media will play their part.
It can definitely be a challenge as we have so many competing responsibilities in our lives and messages from our culture about who we should be and what we should do.
We’re designed to be safe not necessarily happy
We’re also working against thousands of years of biological programming. Our brains are built to keep us safe but not necessarily happy. It’s there to act as a life saver, keep us afloat, but that will always keep you just on the surface. You’re missing so much fun and adventure beneath the surface, beyond your comfort zone.
It’s also so easy to model other people. You find someone having the business success you want or with a life you love the look of and you think if you just copy them then you’ll have the same success. This might work on how to achieve something (the science of achievement) but not on how to enjoy that achievement and feel fulfilled (the art of fulfilment) as that’s different for everyone.
You need to operate out of abundance not scarcity
The world needs people who are tuned into themselves & operating out of a place of abundance and fulfilment rather than scarcity, duty and resistance. In the right state you can tap into creativity, value and purpose which all support business success.
The great news is that clarity of purpose and what it means to you to be successful is not a fixed state that you decide once and that’s it forever and ever.
Give yourself permission to change, evolve & continue to grow into different versions of yourself. In different seasons your life changes, your circumstances change, values shift, you change your mind.
Success Isn’t a destination that you reach and then there is nothing else, it’s a feeling, a process.
Success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure
– Tony Robbins –
Why fulfillment is the new business success
Success without fulfilment is pretty rubbish. Imagine if you work and work for something, you reach your goals but you’re still not happy.
We all want an extraordinary life and as Tony Robbins says, that is usually made up of two things – achievement and fulfilment.
Achievement is a science–you can find someone who has achieved what you want–learn from them, follow a model or learn the skill to make your ideas and dreams a reality.
BUT it’s the second part people forget about or ignore as it’s harder – fulfilment. Fulfillment is an art not a science and is different for everybody. One way to master the art of fulfilment is to look at your values and live in alignment with them.
How to use your values to create a life you love and have business success
One of the best ways to get super clear about what you want to do and how you want to do it is to connect back to your core values. How do you want to show up and how do you want to bring light into the world?
Success is really just hitting an expectation, a goal. So what if you trade the expectation or goal for things that really light you up and you truly value? Like joy, energy, passion, appreciation.
Identifying and naming your values can unlock clarity about what life and business success means and looks like for you.
Then your purpose simply becomes doing things that align with your values and expressing your values through the things you do in the different areas of your life. This allows you to honour the parts of you that are core to fulfilment and true success.
What are values?
Values are signposts to really understand what matters to you, the quality of life that’s important to you and what brings you joy and a sense of being truly you.
They are also an indicator of your gut instinct, you know that nagging feeling inside that you know what you want to do but so often we ignore as we find it hard to articulate what our gut is saying and meaning.
By understanding your gut instinct quickly and easily through your values you can make powerful decisions and feeling confident in the direction you’re taking. It is hard to stray too far too track if you filter all your decisions through your values.
For example if you are offered a job and two of your values are to fee time free and energised, then ask yourself would this job enable you to feel that way?
If you make all major decisions that way you will be able to build a fulfilling and happy life on your terms and ultimately have life and business success
How to create your values
- The great news is that you already know your values, you just need to tap into them.
Grab pen and paper and journal on the topics below. There are no right or wrong answers. We are aiming for 5-7 values.
1) Think about your role models
- What are their characteristics that you admire?
- What draws you to them?
- What have they done, achieved or focused on?
- What do you like about the way they do things?
2) Think about a time when you were completely lost in the moment
- What was happening?
- What was making you happy?
3) How do you want people to feel having met you?
4) How do you want to feel in your life?

Top business success takeaways
I would encourage you to redefine your measure of success to the degree to which you’re living in alignment with your values.
The great news is that you are successful now, it doesn’t have to be delayed or put off until you reach a certain thing or a certain goal for business success.
Let me repeat it for the people at the back…… You are successful now.
Simply ask yourself where are you living in alignment with your values and that’s where you are being successful. So I may not have reached all my business goals yet but I am successful because I workout regularly and spend time with family and friends –this is all in alignment with my value of energy.
If you can’t find success in this moment, in speaking with friends, spending time with your cat, going on a run, whatever, then more ‘success’ more money, more love, more of anything won’t bring a sense of fulfilment.
The biggest takeaway? We need you as you–we need your ideas, your creativity, your joy–show up as only you can, not how you think you’re expected to.
So let me ask you the same question as I asked at the beginning….
Do you think you are successful?
I hope now that your answer is an emphatic yes.
